Not only do I work at a ministry I love (hint:Amor Ministries). I also am involved in my own puppet ministry at a child abuse center in San Diego. I've been taking my troop of puppets for about five years now and it's been wonderful since day one!
Well, something awesome happened this weekend. Saturday night I was mentally preparing what I would bring the children at the child abuse center (this center takes in children that have been abused or neglected and place them into foster care). I didn't have a clear picture of what to tell them. During family worship my mom prayed, "Lord, let these children find you as their Father and that you want them as your children." Well, the next day we arrived prayed and worshipped together with the kids at the center. What happened that was so amazing is that there were 45 teens!! Boys and girls who sat on chairs, mats, and on the gym floor participated happily with the puppets. Before that though I shared with them that my earthly father was nothing like my Heavenly Father. Being a child of an alcoholic father who never showed or said that he loved me until I was about 28 years-old I can relate to the kids at the center. Most of these kids might have never even met their fathers let alone have them say that they love them. I had a captive audience... God's presence was like a healing balm that covered every corner of the place where we were at. After the show almost all 50 Bibles that I brought with me to the center were GONE! I just can't get over God's ways!!!!
"Don't be ashamed to be as a child in your relationship to God. Let the everlasting arms rock you to sleep....He will take care of you day and night, forever." Norman Vincent Peale
A participant from the Coast Hills Church brought in a donation of school books all in Spanish. He is a teacher and he noticed that his school was about to throw out some school books. They were still in their boxes and have not been used. These books are the same books that are used in the Tijuana Schools. After working in the Spring on the "Iganacio Manuel Altamirano" school in the community of Valle Redondo. He had an opportunity to speak with and get acquainted with the principal there. His heart went out to their need and on this trip brought all the books down.
Donations can range from books to clothing to chairs to school supplies. All it needs is some imagination and a heart full of compassion for the needy in Mexico. Thank you supporters!
Today the San Diego office was visited by our faithful pastor and friend of Amor Ministries, Pastor Carl Bernal and a man whose heart is as big as Mexico, Ruben Ruiz. They are long-time participants of Amor Minsitries and about three times a year they bring down donations to our office from Cerritos, California. With their big smiles and friendly ways they have blessed us all by bringing down clothing, care packages (paper bags full of hoousehold items for the families we build for), toys, and school supplies. Always willing to bless, always willing to go the extra mile. I just to thank them and everyone who have opened their hearts for the needy in Mexico.
Here we have Pastor Florentino of Rosarito, Pastor Jose Hernandez of Rosarito, Pastor Carl Bernal, Ruben Ruiz, and Pastor Fausto Meraz of Tijuana.
Awhile a go a gentleman brought to our office here in San Diego around 20 new bikes. So, we came up with the idea of having a coloring and short story contest with the kids from our pastor's board churches. Each church turned in their best pictures and we had several winners. Here are a few of those winners. Also, Canyon View Christian Fellowship of San Diego had an event at their church where the community could donate unwanted bicycles and the congregation would fix them and give them to needy kids. We were able to receive around thirty of them! It brought many smiles to many kids in Mexico.

At almost all our camps during the busy seasons (like spring and summer)we have a small trailer filled with sweets and treats. Plus, there is an array of clothing that has Amor Ministries stamp of approval...literally. There's chocolates, sugary treats, soda, and "FRAPPACHINOS" to tempt any tired, hard working camper.
We also have lovely T-Shirts, hats, beanies, sweatshirts, and visors that have our logo on them.
Where does the proceeds go from all these sales? Good Question! Each year we sell these items to our participants to supplement our "Alternative Gifts" program. Not only do we provide an opportunity for a family to receive a home we also can provide them with food and emergency items (like blankets). Plus, in association with the school district of Tijuana we provide many needy children with "Back to School" supplies. So, the funds we receive from the "Amor Store" goes to these projects.
So everyone benefits! Participants satisfy their sweet tooth or find a great souvenir, and give families the much needed help.
We receive many donations like clothing, blankets, bibles, store donations (Bed, Bath & Beyond), church supplies, and toys. We keep them in our small warehouse at the San Diego office. Due to being so busy I have not been able to place everything in order. Thank goodness for the thoughtfulness of our pastor's wives that came down to spend the day cleaning and putting in order everything in sight. Each week we receive donations and each week pastors from our pastor boards come down to pick up donations and take them to families that we serve. This poses a great opportunity of follow-up with the families we build homes for. The pictures below are of the before and after results. You be the judge!
Quote from Maria Meraz wife of Pastor Fausto Meraz, "We do this gladly because of all that Amor Ministry has done for us."
Truly I'm amazed at the creative thought put into giving. I mean at times we can limit ourselves so much to certain standards of giving that we would rather not give at all.
God gives us the talent (resources) to use and watch it grow.
There are donors who not only give of their finances, but go beyond that and give of their talent.
For example, a participant emailed me saying that a fellow worker brought with her on the trip some curtains she has made and gave them to the family. As she watched her friend give them to the family she noticed their faces...They were beaming with enthusiasm due to the fact that the curtains personalized their house and made their house into a home.
Another group of from a participating church has sent beautiful quilts. Quilts with no doubt filled with love and prayer. Many children will benefit the warmth of each quilt and the thought of knowing that they are loved
Yet many other groups have taken upon themselves as a project to bring clothing, toys, school supplies and Bibles to give to the families
There are always opportunities to give...It might be the building of a house...It might be supporting financially Casa De Amor...Or it could be using the creative talent God has given you to supply the need of many
