Huh...I hope that wasn't supposed to be actual advice. I imagine it'd be best to just get the heck out of the bear's way and worry about what type of bear it was later. Else if it's a grizzly, it'll knock you out of the tree and then eat you once you fall and break your leg and can't get away. If it's a black bear, it will climb up and eat you out of the tree like you're a giant tasty meat-sicle. Neither option seems too appealing.

Ummm, that sounds like really bad advice! Just make sure on that "extended trek" that you sound like a bull in a china closet as you are walking through the woods! That way you won't startle any bears and they will be less likely to want to climb a tree after you! LOL! M~

When I was a kid we were camping in Yosemite and there was a family of bears that stalked the campsites. The momma and baby bear went in and out of the bathrooms (maybe for a shower) and papa went through the trash dumpsters.

Let me tell you no amount of climbing or making noise made us feel safe. And after seeing the window and door of a Beetle torn off to get to the food inside, there is no place safe.

Note to hikers: place food in trees so bears climb up to get it and you run away quietly and quickly.

How about black bears are less than half the size of grizzlies. And they have teddy bear-looking faces. They also aren't all black, they range from black to honey-blonde. The blond ones are the cutest.

Also, black bears usually won't challenge you. Unless they're overly humanized. They don't get out of the way of vehicles very well though. :( I ran one over not long after I moved here. It made me sad.

Oh yes. And this... LOL

How to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear excrement:

Black bear excrement is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear excrement has little bells
in it and smells like pepper spray.
